Arne Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Has The Club's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's expected for doubts to be asked about his position after a further heavy loss against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in 12 games, representing the club's worst run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I've received significant backing from the top,” Slot remarked.
“It's important to turn it around and earn three points obviously but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it's expected that people question you.”
He continued, “I am OK with my position. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with Club Management
Upon being questioned to expand on his conversations with the team officials, Slot revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular discussions I feel the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Failings and Player Response
Slot lamented familiar failings from his team in their European defeat, namely missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his view of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder remarked.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I’m past being angry inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the words.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a phase of this nature with results like these.”
He stated, “However we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And until that badge is removed, we’re always going to compete.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad return to its rightful place, prove again what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the top club in the planet.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
